Description of ADHD

ADHD is a behaviour disorder in which there is a constant pattern of inattention and impulsivity that is more frequent and more severe than is typically seen in children at the same level of development .ADHD is similar to ADD. The difference is that children with ADHD have a hyperactivity component on top of the ADD symptoms. ADHD is a behaviour disorder NOT a learning disability. It is the impulsive and hyperactive behaviour which can lead to difficulties in school.

A child with ADHD is often described as bouncing off the walls as they do not seem to be able to sit still for any length of time. They also talk excessively making them difficult to understand at times, especially when their train of thought or topic switches mid-conversation. Another problem in both the home and school environment is that they constantly interrupt people before they have a chance to finish what they were trying to say, whether they are interrupting a teacher, parent or friend doesnt make a difference to them.

A New Affordable Therapy for ADD/ADHD

All the research over the past 40 years shows clearly that EEG biofeedback training (aka Neurofeedback or Neurotherapy training) is by far the most effective therapy for ADD/ADHD with a “cure” rate of 85% or greater.

However, at an average cost of $4000+ per ADHD child, the mid or low income family simply cannot afford this proven therapy. Ritalin and other dangerous drugs has become the “standard treatment”. None of these ever solve the basic problem, but they allow the teachers to control the classroom, and sedate the ADD/ADHD kids. All such drugs have serious side effects.

Living and Coping with ADD

Abnormally high hyperactivity levels in children (and adults as well) can sometimes be a symptom of a condition known as Attention Deficit Disorder or ADD. With time, this term has become a way to understand something that used to be known as simple hyperactivity or misbehavior in the old days. Many people interchange this term with Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD), which isnt far off the mark, but refers to other symptoms as well.

Affecting between five and twenty percent of children, ADD is not specifically a childhood problem, as many children who suffer with this disorder continue to have problems well into their adult years. The symptoms of adult ADD, however, are generally not as marked as during childhood– generally because the sufferer has learned to cope with their disorder over time. Boys are usually affected ten times more often than girls.
